Olympus mirrorless cameras have a well-deserved reputation for their extensive customization options, outstanding image quality, first-class image stabilization and impressive autofocus. The OM-D E-M1X is no exception, as it is the brand's first professional-level mirrorless Micro Four Thirds camera. For underwater photographers, the E-M1X with its fast continuous shooting, high battery capacity, 4K HDMI 4:2:2 video output and impressive autofocus fulfills almost every requirement they have for a professional camera, with the added benefits of the MFT open-source platform and the convenience of an electronic viewfinder.
The Olympus OM-D E-M1X camera
Olympus' OM-D range is at the forefront of the MFT mirrorless camera movement, and the E-M1X is their long-awaited first pro-level offering. The E-M1X builds on the popular OM-D platform with improved autofocus, faster continuous shooting speeds and two battery packs.
For the discerning underwater photographer, the E-M1X opens up a new dimension of the MFT platform. While the batteries can be changed quickly on the surface, this can prove difficult for fast underwater shots at a depth of 20 meters. While the electronic viewfinder provides crucial instant feedback, it also consumes a lot of valuable battery power. Thanks to the E-M1X's double battery capacity, you no longer have to worry about the battery and can concentrate fully on shooting.
The OM-D series has set the standard for stabilization, and the E-M1X takes it a step further with up to 7.5 stops of stabilization when using supported lenses. This stabilization combined with the improved Dual F.A.S.T autofocus, which provides 121 cross-contrast and phase-detection focus points, makes creating crisp underwater images much easier, even in low-light conditions.
The lightning-fast sensor readout enables an incredible 60 frames per second with an electronic shutter and 15 frames per second with a mechanical shutter. For those shooting fast action with natural or continuous light, this means never missing a split second to win the prize. The E-M1X offers 4:2:2 4K output over HDMI and features Olympus' OM-Log mode, which maximizes the dynamic range of footage.

The NA-EM1X underwater housing from Nauticam
Nauticam's many years of experience with Nauticam mirrorless cameras have been incorporated into the development of the underwater housing for the Olympus OM-D E-M1X. This allows the underwater photographer to intuitively utilize every aspect of the E-M1X's impressive capabilities and extensive customization. Whether it's fast action, still life or 4K video, the NA-EM1X is the ultimate underwater system.
Unprecedented control
The NA-EM1X follows Nauticam's design philosophy of providing access to the most used controls right where you need them, close to the ergonomic handles in the underwater housing.
Behind the two-stage shutter release are an ISO lever and a double lever directed towards the Fn1 and Fn2 buttons on the front of the camera.
A thumb lever, accessible from the right handle, triggers the AE-L/AF-L button, which is often used for autofocusing the R&R button.
A double thumb lever, accessible from the right handle, triggers the AE-L/AF-L button, which is often used for autofocusing the R&R button.
A double thumb lever on the left side leads to the INFO and PLAYBACK buttons.
Lightning release
The NA-EM1X is compatible with Nauticam's Olympus mini flash trigger, which enables fast flash triggering via fiber optic cable to the integrated Sea&Sea-style optical cable connectors. For TTL, the Olympus FL-LM3 flash can be inserted into the hot shoe flash of the housing. The flash can be easily switched on and off via a special switch on the housing.
High-quality professional optics
Nauticam has long supported the open source standard optics in Micro Four Thirds format (MFT) in a wide range of cameras and housings. The NA-EM1X shares the N85 port system with other MFT systems such as the Olympus OM-D E-M1MKII and the Panasonic GH5. For those switching from another MFT Nauticam body, this means almost complete compatibility* for lenses and ports with the NA-EM1X.
(* some N85 ports are not supported, please contact us)
HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 video output
The Olympus E-M1X produces a clean 4:2:2:2 4K M-Log output via HDMI, which can be recorded with an external monitor/recorder such as the Atomos Ninja V. The NA-EM1X is equipped with both M24 and M16 sockets. The M24 socket supports the HDMI 2.0 connection.
An HDMI 1.4 option is also available via the standard HDMI socket when used with the optional M24 to M16 step-down adapter and the appropriate connector.
Integrated vacuum test and leak detection system
The Nauticam vacuum testing and leak detection system is supplied as standard with NA-EM1X. In combination with an additional vacuum valve, this monitoring system constantly provides up-to-date information on the watertight and safe diving condition of the housing. A simple, color-coded LED lighting system indicates to the user that the vacuum is firm or that the housing is losing vacuum. Leakage detection is integrated into the same circuit so that an audible and visual indication is given in the event of water ingress.
The Nauticam system is temperature compensated and eliminates false alarms caused by a change in external temperature or the heating of a camera during an action-packed dive.Arm Attachment: | 1-inch ballhead |
