THE NAUTICAM NA-LX100II UNDERWATER HOUSING

The NA-LX100II is Nauticam's 18th housing Panasonic cameras and the successor to the NA-LX100 for the original Panasonic LX-100 camera. Nauticam housings for compact fixed-lens cameras are able to to enhance these systems for underwater use through native support for our underwater corrective optics.

Access to essential controls is paramount when capturing underwater images. The NA-LX100II places these controls within easy reach of the shooter's natural hand position when using the housing. The LX-100II's customizable buttons are fully accessible, allowing for the optimization of the NA-LX100II to the user's needs.

PREMIUM PROFESSIONAL OPTICS

The NA-LX100II features Nauticam's N50 Port System. The housing ships with the N50 Standard Port that allows for full zoom-through capabilities as well as the possibility for attachment of the optional M67 Flip Mount which accepts either the CMC-1 or CMC-2 Compact Macro Converters. With the addition of these corrective optics the NA-LX100II gains the ability to capture true macro images with up to 4.5x magnification for the CMC-1 and 2.8x magnification for the CMC-2.

The Standard Port can be changed in seconds without tools with the optional N50 Short Port with Bayonet Mount that supports the use of either the CMC-1/2 mentioned above with their optional Bayonet Mounts or the WWL-1 Wet Wide Lens wide angle corrective optic with Bayonet Mount. At a 28mm equivalent focal length, the WWL-1 provides an ultra-wide and ultra-sharp 130º field-of-view.

4K UHD VIDEO

The NA-LX100II housing provides direct access to the camera's dedicated record button with a conveniently located red button near the upper right corner of the rear of the housing. The LX-100II can capture UHD 4K video at upt to 30fps but does so with a 1.34x crop. When using the WWL-1 for still images, it is necessary to zoom in to a 28mm equivalent focal length from the camera's maximum of 24mm, however when shooting video the camera can be left at its widest 24mm setting to mitigate some of the lost field-of-view due to the inherent crop factor of the camera.

EASITRAY AND FLEXITRAY SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY

The NA-LX100II provides a compact platform yet can be expanded to accommodate either the Nauticam Easitray or Flexitray systems. The Easi and Flexitray systems provide single or dual handles featuring standard 1" ball mounts for the mounting of lighting or other accessories. The NA-LX100II ships with stainless steel stiffening brackets and shutter release extension for use with these handle systems.

Compact Macro Converter CMC-1
The CMC is an extremely powerful super-macro accessory lens optimized for use with both fixed-lens compact, mirrorless interchangeable lens, and DSLR cameras. Part of Nauticam's in-house lineup of wet and dry optics, these accessory lenses are purpose built and rigorously tested to outperform any other optics on the market. Introducing CMC-1 Smaler, lighter, stronger While the Nauticam Super Macro Converter (SMC) design inspired the development of the Compact Macro Converter, the CMC is actually more powerful. The CMC provides more magnification than the SMC with all compatible compact camera systems for which it was designed. As expected, the CMC provides more magnification than any compact camera tested can achieve on its own, and does so with improved working distance. This combination makes CMC ideal for tiny, skittish subjects. Using the popular RX100V as an example, the CMC-1 results in a magnification of 2.3X the smallest subject the camera is capable of photographing with no accessory lens (34.5mm v 80mm), and it does so with 1.4X the working distance (56mm v 80mm). Results with the Canon G7X are even more stunning, providing 3.0X magnification at approximately 2.4X the working distance. To achieve the same image sizes with sealed magnifying lenses a +15 Diopter or stronger would be required, but no +15 Diopter lens can match the overall image quality of CMC-1. This is achieved while maintaining the smallest size and weight possible. Breakthroug Lens Design Prior to the development of the Nauticam accessory macro conversion lenses, achieving super macro underwater meant using tools that were designed for in-air use. These tools simply do not take into account the physics of shooting through water. Thanks to Edward Lai, Managing Director of Nauticam, the CMC-1 takes a radically different approach: hundreds of engineering hours utilizing computer software to model a lens that complements an entire system – camera, lens, port, air, and water – as a whole. This accounts for the critical air-water interfaces in a conversion lens design to achieve the best image quality possible. The improvements are stunning, measurable and a new standard in underwater macro imaging. Uncompromised optical Quality The CMC-1 is constructed from lenses precision crafted of specially formulated low-dispersion optical-grade glass, ground to the most demanding standards. This means greater sharpness and contrast on every shot and extraordinary resolution rivaling a macro lens used in air. Broadband anti-refective coatings effectively reduce common optical issues such as chromatic aberrations, coma, spherical aberration, and field deformation associated with underwater macro photography using traditional magnifying lenses. This means superior light transmission, accurate color and no distortion or vignetting in the most demanding situations. These exceptional optics are assembled in a rugged hard anodized aluminum housing, and nitrogen purged during assembly to eliminate fogging. The CMC-1 is compatible with a variety of camera systems, but the most impressive increase in magnification comes when paired with the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens for M43 Systems. This combination achieves a 2:1 reproduction ratio. This translates into an image 8.5mm X 6.3MM, and one of the most powerful macro imaging systems available. Optimized for Autofocus By utilizing a specially developed algorithm in the optimization process, the CMC-1 renders superior image quality over the full focusing range of the camera lens. This, combined with the high brightness and contrast of the image, allows the autofocus system of the camera to work well – often better than less powerful close focus lenses. Just as important are the out-of-focus (Bokeh) portions of the image that exhibit the same creamy smooth quality that photographers appreciate when shooting macro in air – all without color fringing common to traditional magnifying lenses. Avoiding Diffraction Due to the overall superior optical performance and precision focus of the CMC-1 it is possible to shoot larger apertures with excellent image quality. This avoids reaching the diffraction limit of high resolution sensors, and allows selective focus effects with narrow depth of field in super macro images. Also compatible with Nikon AF-S 60mm Macro While designed with compact cameras in mind, compatibility with larger formats has proven to be possible in some cases. Nikon AF-S 60mm Macro (not compatible with the earlier SMC-1) provides 1.5 : 1 Reproduction Ratio when with combined CMC-1. This combination is extremely versatile, covering fish portraits, 1:1 macro, and now 1.5:1 super macro on the same dive. Mounting and Using the CMC-1 The CMC-1 ships with the common 67mm threaded lens mount. The CMC-1 has a protruding rear lens element, designed to place the accessory optic as close to the camera lens port as is possible, providing the best overall image quality when used with flip lens adapters. A flush mount adapter ring is used when attaching CMC-1 directly to an underwater housing, and is included with the lens. Flip lens holders, available to suit most Nauticam housings and lens ports, provide the fastest and most convenient lens mount possible. The lens is always threaded in place, and available to be flipped down as needed.

Flexitray II with Left Handle
The Nauticam Flexitray II is a very versatile and easy to use camera tray. Flexitray II W adds two 1/4-20 threaded tripod mounting holes to the popular Flexitray II. The Flexitray II W does not have the anti-rotation feature of the Flexitray II. For compact and point-and-shoot housings that have only one tripod mounting screw, please use the Flexitray II. Comparing Flexitray II (top) with Flexitray II W (bottom) Note the tripod mounting holes in the middle of the Flexitray II W. The left handle of the Flexitray II is adjustable for width (length of tray). If additional length is desired, you may add optional Nauticam 20mm extension or Nauticam 30mm extension to this tray. The handle is also adjustable front and back. This adjustment means the ability to adjust your Flexitray II for much more comfort and camera control than ordinary camera trays. The bottom side of the tray is designed to lay flat. On the top side of the tray is a rubber insert which can reduce the possibility of scratching your housing and, more importantly, increase friction between the camera housing and the tray for improved stability. The Flexitray II is supplied with 1/4 – 20 thumbscrews which fit most tripod mount threads. Thumbscrews in thread #12-24 (Ikelite housings) and 6mm thumbscrews are available. Optional T-groove plates and 1 inch ball adapters are custom designed to fit these handles. An adjustable right side handle is available that quickly mounts to this tray. With the optional Nauticam right-handle kit added the distance from handle to handle can be adjusted from 8+3/4 inch to 10+1/4 inch (center to center measurement).

Wet Wide Lens 1B with float collar (WWL-1B) by Nauticam
The next generation of WWL-1 is here!  The WWL-1B features the same stunningly sharp optics as the WWL-1, but it now includes an integrated aluminum buoyancy collar to make it nearly neutral in water.  The WWL-1 and now WWL-1B are still the highest quality wet-changeable underwater wide-angle conversion optics ever made, featuring unmatched contrast, overall sharpness, corner sharpness, and clarity. The design is truly full zoom through, allowing zoom to to be used as a tool for framing, and removable in water for close-up and macro shots. INTRODUCING WET WIDE LENS 1B (WWL-1B) 130 DEG. FOV WITH COMPATIBLE 28MM LENSES (INCL. FLOAT COLLAR) The WWL-1 is the highest quality wet-changeable underwater wide-angle conversion optic ever made, featuring unmatched contrast, overall sharpness, corner sharpness, and clarity. The design is truly full zoom through, allowing zoom to to be used as a tool for framing, and removable in water for close-up and macro shots. NA-GX7 & Nauticam WWL-1 Lens Showreel from Nauticam on Vimeo. Breakthrough lens design Every Nauticam lens is a "clean slate" design. These optical systems are engineered entirely as underwater corrective and conversion optics, and not adaptations of in air designs. The process isn't an easy one, but the images captured by WWL-1B and previous Nauticam optical designs prove the effort is well spent. Uncompromised Optical Quality WWL-1B is constructed of 6 precisely ground elements of highly refractive optical glass. All internal elements are coated with a broadband anti reflective coating to keep flare and internal reflections to an absolute minimum. Zoom to frame WWL-1B is a full zoom through lens, performing well through the entire zoom range of popular compacts and Micro Four Thirds systems with power zoom lenses. This feature distinguishes this lens from all others on the market, which are designed to be used at a single focal length. The ability to be used with zoom makes WWL-1 extremely versatile! A touch of zoom can be used to crop a subject in camera, or for close-up shots without removing the lens. Stunning field of view 130 degrees of glorious wide angle coverage, and even a bit wider if your camera system allows it! This is a field of view that sits between the popular full frame fisheye lenses (180 degrees diagonal) and ultra wide rectilinear zooms (approximately 110 degrees). This coverage angle was targeted from the very beginning as an ideal coverage angle for a wide variety of underwater imaging scenarios. Big animals, close focus wide angle shots of reef dwelling creatures, and even mid-range fish portraits are all within the range of WWL-1B. Incredible sharpness and contrast The cutting edge optical design employed in WWL-1 results in extremely high overall sharpness, contrast, and edge sharpness. The design is optimized for the high resolution sensors of today, as well as the even higher resolutions sensors of tomorrow. Close focus The ability to focus close is key, and WWL-1B does amazingly well. With all compatible systems at wide angle the lens is able to focus on the front of its dome lens element, maximizing the impact of even small subjects. Amazingly, with the Panasonic 14-42 Power Zoom, the lens is still able to focus on the front of the dome port when zoomed to full telephoto! The best macro images will always be obtained by removing WWL-1 and mounting a macro converter (such as CMC or SMC), but in situations where that is difficult close-up shots can still be obtained without removing the wide angle conversion lens. Compatibility Wet lenses have traditionally been an accessory geared toward compact cameras, but Nauticam set out from the very beginning to support a wider range of systems, with larger sensor sizes. Most impressive is the outstanding performance available with the full frame Sony A7 series cameras using the Sony 28mm /2 Prime lens. In our tests, this combo out-performed all of the Sony wide angle lenses behind dome ports, and is especially well matched to the demanding 42 megapixel sensor in Sony A7R II. Micro four thirds systems used with power zoom lenses are another compelling combination. 130 Degrees on the wide end, with a 3x Zoom Range, and close focus on the front of the dome. This combination is wider, sharper, and has less distortion than the Panasonic 7-14 F/4 and Olympus 7-14 F/2.8 lenses behind a dome port. Twist off the lens, and snap on a CMC for high powered macro photography, capturing an image area 22mm (just under 1?) wide! The full range of compatible systems is listed below. Simple bayonet mounting A new bayonet mounting system has been designed to accompany the WWL-1B release, and maximize ease of use. Lenses snap into place, and are securely locked. A red locking tab releases the lens for removal, and lens holders provide storage for lenses on a strobe arm when not in use. The bayonet mount system has been designed to incorporate vents that quickly flood the space between lens and camera, washing away air bubbles.

M16 Vacuum Valve II
Installing vacuum valve to housing Remove the plug of the M16 accessory port from the housing. Remove the cap from the vacuum valve. Tighten the vacuum valve to the housing with the tool provided.   Building up vacuum Remove the cap of the vacuum valve. Connect the hand pump to the valve and pump several times until it reaches the target vacuum level. The LED light will turn flashing yellow while vacuum is building up, then steady green when the target vacuum level is reached. Attention: After the target vacuum is reached, i.e. steady green light, attach the cap back to the vacuum valve. It is recommended to leave the housing for at least 20mins to ensure it is sealed. If the LED light changes from steady green light to rapidly flashing yellow light, that means there is a leakage and please check every O-ring and conduct the vacuum test again. Please ensure that the cap is attached back to the vacuum valve before going underwater. Vacuum can be released by pushing the red release button. Attention: Please DO NOT attempt to go over the designated vacuum level, i.e. stop pumping when the LED turn green. Excessive vacuum level may lead to the malfunction of the camera and lens. Note: Although the vacuum indicator is designated to compensate for a certain amount of temperature variation, it is recommended to conduct the vacuum test in an environment where the temperature is stable.   After set up, the meaning of the LED indicator in the housing: Flashing “Blue” light: Standby mode. The moisture alarm is active, and the system is ready for vacuum indication whenever a vacuum is detected. Flashing “Red” light with beeping sound:Moisture is detected. Flashing “Yellow” light: Some vacuum is detected, target vacuum level is not reached. Steady “Green” light: Target vacuum level is reached. Rapidly flashing “Yellow” light: Vacuum is dropping. (Will occur only after target vacuum level is reached) Rapidly flashing “Red” light: Vacuum is totally lost. Circuit stalled until switched off. (Will occur only after target vacuum level is reached)
