Looking at the specs, the Sony FX3 is strikingly similar to the A7S III less an electronic viewfinder.  Take a closer look and its the powerful video features of the A7S III with cinema-centric controls and exterior design.  The FX3 can capture 4K at up to 120fps with 15+ stops of dynamic range with the option for RAW over HDMI.  Controls are optimized for video with direct iris, ISO and shutter angle control.  With the addition of an internal fan, the recording time limit for 4K60p has been removed.  The NA-FX3's compact size make it ideal for the traveling filmmaker and those looking for a more nimble underwater System.

THE SONY ALPHA FX3 CINEMA LINE FULL-FRAME CAMERA

Compact cinema cameras are increasingly a popular choice for underwater film making and Sony's FX3 brings the powerful capabilities of the A7S III full-frame mirrorless camera to the form factor.  The FX3 is built around the same sensor as the A7S III that allows for capture of up to 4K 120p 10-bit 4:2:2 with full-pixel readout.  The FX3 adds a cooling fan to reduce heat buildup during continuous filming and omits the electronic viewfinder of the A7S III.  The controls of the FX3 are also clearly cinema-centric with direct access to iris, shutter angle, ISO and WB.  There is also a zoom lever and tally light.

The FX3's 627-point phase detection autofocus features customizable AF Transition Speed as well as Subject Shit Sensitivity as well as real-time AF tracking.  5-axis in-body stabilization helps create smooth video.  The FX3 has minimized rolling shutter effect at higher frame rates due to faster sensor readout.

The incredible sensitivity of the A7S III is shared by the FX3 with a maximum ISO value of 409,600 and reduced noise at higher sensitivities.  When shooting at higher frame rates, the ability to shoot at higher ISO values with little penalty to image quality is a game changer.  Using color correction filters, which often result in a loss of light, while maintaining desired iris and shutter angle settings makes the FX3 ideal as an underwater filmmaking camera for even the most challenging lighting situations.  A visible and IR light sensor improves white balance accuracy.

When working with external recorders, the FX3 can output a RAW 16-bit 4K60p signal via the HDMI type-A port.  Internal recording is to dual CFexpress Type A or SDXC/SDHC card slots.

THE NAUTICAM NA-FX3 UNDERWATER HOUSING

The Nauticam NA-FX3 underwater housing is designed to deliver an intuitive user experience in a rugged and reliable platform that is supported by the extensive Nauticam lineup of accessories and premium optics. The NA-FX3 is built around the N100 port system that is shared by all full-frame Sony mirrorless systems in the Nauticam lineup, allowing seamless crossover for existing Sony shooters.

CAMERA COMPATIBILITY

The NA-FX3 underwater housing is compatible with both the Sony FX3 and the Sony FX30.

MISSION CONTROL

The NA-FX3 is designed with our Mission Control philosophy, placing controls where they can be easily accessed with minimal movement.  Within easy reach of the right handle are control dials for Iris, ISO and Shutter Speed.  There is also a dedicated REC button and FOCUS MAG lever.  Stainless steel stabilizing brackets insure the handles remain steady even when using large video lights or other accessories.

CONNECTIVITY

The NA-FX3 features a an M24 bulkhead which supports the Nauticam HDMI 2.0/1.4 cable system which can be paired with supported external monitors/recorders.  In addition there is an M16 bulkhead which is dedicated for remote control capability using the Sony RM-VPR1 controller (proprietary waterproof cable is required).  On the rear cover there is also an M14 bulkhead which can be fitted with the optional M14 Vacuum Valve II (25624).  The NA-FX3 comes with the Nauticam vacuum check and leak detection system as standard equipment. This monitoring system, when paired with the optional vacuum valve, provides constant updates on the water tight and safe-to-dive status of the housing. A simple color coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is solid, or that the housing is losing vacuum. Leak detection is built into the same circuit, so if there is water intrusion, an audible and visual indication will occur. The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms caused by a change in outside temperature, or from a camera heating up on an action packed dive.

PREMIUM PROFESSIONAL OPTICS

Optical performance is just as necessary as camera performance and this becomes even more critical given the challenges of filming underwater. The Nauticam NA-FX3 uses the same N100 Port System as other Sony full-frame mirrorless housings which makes for a seamless transition for those upgrading or looking to add an additional camera to their lineup. While this system provides exceptional optical-glass and flat port solutions for a wide variety lenses, the real power can be realized using Nauticam's Water Contact Optics. This lineup of dry and wet lenses are conceived using commercial lens-design software to achieve truly unparalleled underwater image quality both for stills and video in both macro and wide-angle situations. The WACP-1 and WACP-2 achieve ultra-wide 130º fields-of-view with reduced distortion over conventional optics while featuring ~0" minimum focus distances, zoom through capabilities and unbeatable corner sharpness at even wide-open apertures such as F5.6.

Macro

Super Macro Konverter SMC-1
THE FINEST MACRO ACCESSORY LENS FOR DSLR/MIL CAMERAS The Nauticam Super Macro Converter 1 (SMC-1) is the first underwater macro conversion lens that is fully optimized for in water use. This unique and innovative lens will change the way that underwater macro photography is done. BREAKTHROUGH LENS DESIGN Prior to the Super Macro Converter, achieving "super macro" underwater meant using tools that were designed for in air use. These tools simply do not take into account the physics of shooting in water. The SMC takes a radically different approach: treat the system ? camera, lens, port, air, and water ? as a whole, and account for the air-water interfaces in a conversion lens design to achieve the best image quality possible. The improvement is stunning, measurable and a new standard in underwater macro imaging has been established. "This is the sharpest accessory macro lens I have used. Something that it is truly remarkable because it is also the most powerful. Fantastic performance from the centre of the frame to the corners. It is a lens that pushes back the boundaries of the types of photos we can take underwater." -Dr. Alex Mustard (www.amustard.com) Three key advantages to this internationally patent pending new optical design: Higher Magnification Than Other Popular Super Macro Tools with Increased Working Distance Better Edge to Edge Image Quality, Higher Contrast, and Lower Color Fringing Compatibility with "short" macro lenses that traditionally have not worked well with super macro accessories, like Canon EF-S 60mm, Panasonic Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S., Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED M.Zuiko EZ Micro 4/3 Lens, and Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro. Edward Lai, Managing Director of Nauticam, has utilized a revolutionary approach in developing the SMC. This is a completely new lens design, developed through hundreds of engineering hours utilizing computer software to model the optical properties of the complete underwater imaging system. Incorporating these factors into the design yields amazing sharpness, contrast, and clarity that isn't available from a simple magnifying lens for use in air sealed in a waterproof enclosure. UNCOMPROMISED OPTICAL QUALITY The Super Macro Converter is constructed from lenses are precision crafted of specially formulated low dispersion optical grade glass, ground to the most demanding standards. These exceptional measures, enhanced by broadband anti-refective coatings effectively reduce common optical issues such as chromatic aberrations, coma, spherical aberration, and field deformation associated with underwater macro photography using traditional magnifying lenses. These optics are assembled in a rugged hard anodized aluminum housing, and nitrogen purged during assembly to eliminate fogging. STUNNING MAGNIFICATION When combined with a full frame camera and a 100mm or 105mm macro lens, the device converts the optical system to provide a maximum of 2.3X magnification factor. In other words, a subject area of 15.6mm X 10.4mm will fill the whole frame of a 36mm X 24mm sensor. IMPROVED SHARPNESS AND CONTRAST As the Super Macro Converter is optimized explicitly for using together with a macro lens underwater, images captured exhibit exceptional sharpness compared with conventional magnification lenses. Thanks to the broadband multi-layer anti-reflection coating on each surface of the lenses, images also exhibit higher contrast. SUPERB LIGHT TRANSMISSION All the lens elements installed inside the SMC are optically optimized to appropriate diameters so as to provide maximum light transmission. The SMC doesn't suffer from vignette issues under even the most extreme conditions. The broad band multi-layer anti-reflection coating on all surfaces also greatly improves light transmission. OPTIMIZED FOR AUTOFOCUS By utilizing a specially developed algorithm in the optimization process, the SMC renders superior image quality over the full focusing range of the camera lens (which becomes ~50 to ~100 mm in front of the SMC). Also benefitting from the high brightness and contrast of the image, the autofocus system of the camera usually works acceptably well within this range. AMPLE WORKING DISTANCE Even at the maximum 2.3X magnification, there is still more than 50mm of working distance between the front element and the subject with 100/105mm macro lenses. This working distance is crucial when capturing behavior with skittish subjects. RESOLUTION High resolution was a primary design goal of the SMC project. This has been achieved using computer aided optimization and high grade optical glasses with unique refractive and dispersion properties. Images taken with this new system exhibit very high resolution and quality. Results have exceeded expectations, and these images rival the quality of the macro lens in air. SMOOTH BOKEH The Converter retains the optical properties of the macro lens for the whole system underwater, resulting in a blurred (out of focus) background that has a pleasing smoothness and creamy look, without the normal purple and green fringing. AVOIDING DIFFRACTION Due to the overall superior optical performance of the SMC it is possible to shoot larger apertures with excellent image quality. This avoids reaching the diffraction limit of high resolution sensors, and allows selective focus effects with narrow depth of field in super macro images.

EMWL Set #3 for Sony 90
Footage by Uli Kunz with Sony A7SIII and SEL90M28G in Nauticam-Housing with eMWL  The eMWL as a modular system The eMWL was developed as a modular design with three individual parts: the focusing unit, the relay module and the lens. Nauticam has developed components optimized to work with different camera manufacturers and their macro lenses, as well as a selection for three unique perspectives. Let's take a look at each part and dive a little deeper into the eMWL. The complete eMWL system Objective lenses, 60°, 100°, 130° - Relay unit - Focusing unit eMWL-Focusing unit Three focusing units have been developed to ensure the best results on a range of cameras, and each unit is optically matched to the recommended prime lenses. The eMWL is very sharp and has very good contrast, and the autofocus works very well.  This is a significant advantage over other relay lenses available. You also have the option to add a manual focus gear. You can also use lens adapters like the Nikon FTZ, EF to EOS R or the Sigma MC-21. The focusing unit is the part closest to your port, it is designed with 6 glass elements in 3 groups and is connected via the bayonet lock system.  Focusing unit (NA87203) for Sony Compatible lens: Sony SEL90M28G FE 90mm F2,8 Makro G OSS  eMWL-Relay unit The next element to be attached to the front of the focusing unit is the relay lens. It was designed to the highest standard with 14 glass elements in 10 groups. The eMWL objective lenses create an inverted image so that it appears upside down. The relay lens corrects the inverted image and returns the image to the focusing unit and sensor. It is 150 mm long and only 62 mm wide at its widest point. This allows the front of the eMWL to be placed extremely close to your subject while keeping the bulk of the camera system and the photographer at a greater distance. It also opens up creative possibilities for videographers to capture motion shots in tight spaces. Imagine poking through sea grass to expose a young batfish, or pulling back from a small subject to show the nook where it lives. All three focusing units use the same relay lens. It is possible to use the eMWL without the relay lens if you do not need the extended working distance. But then a camera or monitor that can correct the inverted image in the electronic viewfinder or screen is advantageous. eMWL-Objective Lenses The final piece that attaches to the front of the Relay Lens is the Objective Lens. There are three different versions with varying degrees of angle-of-view. You would choose one based on the look, subject or type of image you would like to produce. These, like the other two parts, can all be put together and disassembled underwater. You could keep all three objective lenses with you and swap out when needed. You can shoot these just like you would any other lens, but the real magic happens when you get up close to your subject. The 130° and 100° objective lenses will focus as close as the front element and the 60° objective lens can focus as close as 15mm. You could fill up most of the frame with a nudibranch and still have room for a diver in the background! The EMWL is a great tool to boost your creativity. 130° Objektive Lens (NA87223) This is the widest of the three Objective Lenses, designed with 9 elements in 7 groups. It is perfect for larger macro subjects or any image where you want to see more of the background. The image quality rivals the best wide angle lenses so feel free to shoot it for traditional wide angle shots as well.  100°-Objective Lens (NA87222) This is an extremely versatile angle of view. It is the smallest and sleekest in physical size making it a good choice for timid subjects and tight spaces. It is designed with 9 elements in 6 groups. An angle of view of 100° is still a lot of background space for small macro subjects or to shoot wide angle with. A 16mm lens on FF is 107° for comparison.  60°-Objective Lens (NA87221)  For a narrower angle-of-view or if you would like the background elements to look more compressed, than the 60° objective lens is the perfect choice. It is designed with 9 elements in 6 groups. There are three focusing ranges that can be set on the lens, 8-55mm, 55-25mm and 25-15mm. I would suggest setting it to the 8-55mm setting and adjust to one of the closer settings when working extremely close to a subject. The closer setting work similar to an extension tube by moving the lens further away from the sensor. Bayonet mount The EMWL uses the Nauticam Bayonet Mounting System. You can easily attach or remove the EMWL to shoot with just the macro lens or add other accessories. You will need to add the appropriate Bayonet Mount Converter to the front of your port. If you wish to use a Super Macro (SMC-1 or SMC-2) or Compact Macro Converter (CMC-1 or CMC-2), they can be attached with an optional Bayonet Mount Adapter. M67 Bayonet Mount Converter II for Nauticam 67mm threaded ports (NA83250)  M77 Bayonet Mount Converter II for Nauticam 77mm threaded ports (NA83251)  Bayonet Mount Adapter for SMC and CMCC (NA83214)
