This housing provides unfettered access to all camera controls and functions, enabling users to fully utilize the camera's capabilities while diving. Its durable construction and user-friendly features make it an ideal choice for underwater storytellers seeking a dependable and efficient underwater housing Option.

THE PANASONIC LUMIX S5II(X) CAMERA

Panasonic has a knack for developing cameras that often fill a unique niche that have earned the brand a passionate following around the globe. So where does the S5II slot for the underwater enthusiast? First and foremost, this camera provides a remarkable value for a full frame, feature rich platform in a compact (for full frame) body. Despite its entry level pricing, it punches well above its weight class with some impressive specifications. Here is what stands out.

Dual Native ISO

The S5II is already a great low light performer with a 24mp Full Frame sensor, but with Dual Native ISO, a shooter can jump to the higher native ISO with less grain than what would be typical.

State of the Art Image Stabilization

Yes, many cameras sport IBIS these days, but Panasonic is in a different league. Hand held video is mind-bendingly smooth.

Built-In Cooling Fan

Many recent top-of-the-line cameras from other manufacturers have had the video performance hobbled by overheating. But Panasonic has always prioritized video performance and has included built-in cooling. The result? Unlimited 4K internal recording times in 10-bit and 30-minute record for 6K 30p on either camera.

Much Improved Phase Detection AF

Not always a Panasonic strong point, the S5II makes huge strides in AF performance.

Perks for the S5IIX

The "X" offers even more video goodness. HDMI ProRes RAW or ProRes 422 output for external recording. For topside recording, the camera offers direct to SSD recording via USBC at bit-rates up to 800Mbs.

THE NAUTICAM NA-S5II UNDERWATER HOUSING

Nauticam’s tagline is “Innovation Underwater”, and the company is dedicated to following through with that promise in the industry, while helping to protect customer investments in existing Nauticam gear whenever possible. The NA-S5II/X is a prime example as this underwater housing is designed to work flawlessly with the Panasonic Lumix S5II and the S5X. This NA-S5II allows completely unrestricted access to all of the camera's controls, positioning critical controls like AF-ON directly at the photographer's finger tips.

The NA-S5II underwater housing features the rotary housing lock which is now standard on their more compact line of mirrorless camera housings. With this feature, you can easily open and close the housing with one hand.

Mission Control

Nauticam engineers are obsessed with usability and the Mission Control philosophy means placing essential controls where they are needed, unrestricted by where they are located on the camera body. Placing the controls as close to the handles as possible and within easy and natural reach, the user can focus on composition and timing their shot while adjusting exposure or focus without taking their eye off the EVF or LCD.

The NA-S5II has a thumb lever on the right rear side of the housing that comfortably accesses AF-On without ever letting go of the handle. An additional lever on the rear of the NA-S5II allows for focus mode switching between C/S/MF, while a multi-directional pad gives the ability to navigate the menu or move the focus points.

EF and L Lens Support

Sigma's MC-21 EF to L adapter allows for the use of Canon and Sigma EF-mount lenses to be used with the S5II/X camera. The NA-S5II Housing is designed to not only accommodate the adapter but to allow for the use of the existing focus and zoom gears for Canon EF-mount lenses for the N120 Canon System along with the existing Canon N120 extension ring and port combinations for those lenses.  As more native L-mount lenses become available, those best suited to underwater use will be added to the system.  For full compatibility, you can refer to the port chart found here.

Flash Triggering

For rapid-fire manual flash triggering, the NA-S5II is compatible with the Mini Flash Trigger (NA26305) which uses small LEDs to trigger external flashes via Nauticam Universal Fiber Optic Cables (NA26216).

The Panasonic DMW-FL70 flash is not supported within the housing.

Vacuum Check and Leak Detection System

The Nauticam vacuum check and leak detection electronics are shipped with the NA-S5II as standard equipment. Combined with an optional accessory M14 vacuum valve (NA25624) this monitoring system provides constant updates on the water tight and safe-to-dive status of the housing. A simple color coded LED lighting system lets the user know that the vacuum is solid, or that the housing is losing vacuum. Leak detection is built into the same circuit, so if there is water intrusion, an audible and visual indication will occur.

The Nauticam system is temperature compensated, eliminating false alarms caused by a change in outside temperature, or from a camera heating up on an action packed dive.

Installing vacuum valve to housing Remove the plug of the M14 accessory port from the housing. Remove the cap from the vacuum valve. Tighten the vacuum valve to the housing with the tool provided. Building up vacuum Remove the cap of the vacuum valve. Connect the hand pump to the valve and pump several times until it reaches the target vacuum level. The LED light will turn flashing yellow while vacuum is building up, then steady green when the target vacuum level is reached. Attention: After the target vacuum is reached, i.e. steady green light, attach the cap back to the vacuum valve. It is recommended to leave the housing for at least 20mins to ensure it is sealed. If the LED light changes from steady green light to rapidly flashing yellow light, that means there is a leakage and please check every O-ring and conduct the vacuum test again. Please ensure that the cap is attached back to the vacuum valve before going underwater. Vacuum can be released by pushing the red release button. Attention: Please DO NOT attempt to go over the designated vacuum level, i.e. stop pumping when the LED turn green. Excessive vacuum level may lead to the malfunction of the camera and lens. Full Frame Angle Viewinder 32°/ 1:1
The next generation Nauticam Full Angle Straight Viewfinder is the perfect addition to your housing as it provides a bright, clear and undistorted 1:1 image of the camera’s viewfinder and is essential for precise focusing and artistic composition.  This viewfinder is also available in an 0.8:1 version that can also accommodate viewing of the entire image field on cameras with larger EVFs such as the Sony A1. The Full Frame Angle Viewfinder also provides more clearance for your regulator allowing for more a more comfortable viewing position, installs in seconds without tools and retains the hassle-free underwater dioptric adjustment feature. The viewfinder can also be rotated when using the camera in a portrait orientation. INTRODUCING NAUTICAM FULL FRAME ANGLE VIEWFINDER 32°/ 1:1 For over a decade, Nauticam’s Enhanced Viewfinders have been known for superior optics, tack sharp performance and first-of-its-kind underwater dioptric adjustment. Anyone who has used these instruments has grown to appreciate what an asset they can be to any underwater photographer. But the camera world has seen radical changes in technology in the last ten years, including ever increasing size and resolution of Electronic Viewfinders (EVFs) found in the latest high-end mirrorless cameras. These newer EVFs challenge even the finest enhanced viewfinders for underwater housings. In response to this technological evolution, Nauticam is excited to introduce the next generation of Enhanced Viewfinders designed to meet and exceed the requirements of all the current digital camera EVFs, as well as what is expected in the near future. The new Full Frame Straight Viewfinder employs entirely new optics to allow distortion free viewing without clipping the image frame. With the new viewfinders, reviewing images in playback or navigating the menus through the EVF has never been so easy. 32º/1:1 VS. 42º/0.8:1 Because different photographers have different needs and priorities, Nauticam offers the Full Frame Angle Viewfinder in two options. The 1:1 viewfinder option offers the most magnification available for underwater viewing while preserving the image field and surrounding data on most cameras. This viewfinder is a breakthrough in performance on high resolution EVFs and is an absolute joy on traditional DSLRs. The level of detail rendered is unequaled in the industry. For those utilizing cameras with known EVF challenges such as the Sony’s A1 and A7SIII cameras, or just for the photographer who wants as much working room on the viewfinder field-of-view as possible, Nauticam offers the new 0.8:1 version. The 0.8:1 viewfinder offers an equally crisp and bright EVF display as the 1:1 viewfinder, with slightly less magnification for uncompromising corner to corner image viewing or better imaging of shooting data. HASSLE-FREE UNDERWATER DIOPTRIC ADJUSTMENT The much-loved dioptric adjustment is still featured and allows for easy eyesight adjustment in-water without disassembly of the viewfinder.  as well as the simple installation and removal that takes only seconds. TOOL FREE INSTALLATION The Nauticam Full Frame Angle Viewfinder can be installed in seconds without any tools.  The viewfinder is a direct replacement of the stock 0.66X viewfinder on DSLR and many full-frame mirrorless housings but requires an easily installed adapter on certain MIL housings. The viewfinder can also be rotated when using the camera in a portrait orientation. Whether future proofing a viewfinder purchase for your current rig, or patiently waiting for a viewfinder worthy of the latest pro mirrorless camera you are diving, these cutting-edge viewfinders are the new industry standard to be looking at. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/1AeT-02Mrdo?controls=0" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Macro

Super Macro Konverter SMC-1
THE FINEST MACRO ACCESSORY LENS FOR DSLR/MIL CAMERAS The Nauticam Super Macro Converter 1 (SMC-1) is the first underwater macro conversion lens that is fully optimized for in water use. This unique and innovative lens will change the way that underwater macro photography is done. BREAKTHROUGH LENS DESIGN Prior to the Super Macro Converter, achieving "super macro" underwater meant using tools that were designed for in air use. These tools simply do not take into account the physics of shooting in water. The SMC takes a radically different approach: treat the system ? camera, lens, port, air, and water ? as a whole, and account for the air-water interfaces in a conversion lens design to achieve the best image quality possible. The improvement is stunning, measurable and a new standard in underwater macro imaging has been established. "This is the sharpest accessory macro lens I have used. Something that it is truly remarkable because it is also the most powerful. Fantastic performance from the centre of the frame to the corners. It is a lens that pushes back the boundaries of the types of photos we can take underwater." -Dr. Alex Mustard (www.amustard.com) Three key advantages to this internationally patent pending new optical design: Higher Magnification Than Other Popular Super Macro Tools with Increased Working Distance Better Edge to Edge Image Quality, Higher Contrast, and Lower Color Fringing Compatibility with "short" macro lenses that traditionally have not worked well with super macro accessories, like Canon EF-S 60mm, Panasonic Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 ASPH. MEGA O.I.S., Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED M.Zuiko EZ Micro 4/3 Lens, and Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm f/2.8 Macro. Edward Lai, Managing Director of Nauticam, has utilized a revolutionary approach in developing the SMC. This is a completely new lens design, developed through hundreds of engineering hours utilizing computer software to model the optical properties of the complete underwater imaging system. Incorporating these factors into the design yields amazing sharpness, contrast, and clarity that isn't available from a simple magnifying lens for use in air sealed in a waterproof enclosure. UNCOMPROMISED OPTICAL QUALITY The Super Macro Converter is constructed from lenses are precision crafted of specially formulated low dispersion optical grade glass, ground to the most demanding standards. These exceptional measures, enhanced by broadband anti-refective coatings effectively reduce common optical issues such as chromatic aberrations, coma, spherical aberration, and field deformation associated with underwater macro photography using traditional magnifying lenses. These optics are assembled in a rugged hard anodized aluminum housing, and nitrogen purged during assembly to eliminate fogging. STUNNING MAGNIFICATION When combined with a full frame camera and a 100mm or 105mm macro lens, the device converts the optical system to provide a maximum of 2.3X magnification factor. In other words, a subject area of 15.6mm X 10.4mm will fill the whole frame of a 36mm X 24mm sensor. IMPROVED SHARPNESS AND CONTRAST As the Super Macro Converter is optimized explicitly for using together with a macro lens underwater, images captured exhibit exceptional sharpness compared with conventional magnification lenses. Thanks to the broadband multi-layer anti-reflection coating on each surface of the lenses, images also exhibit higher contrast. SUPERB LIGHT TRANSMISSION All the lens elements installed inside the SMC are optically optimized to appropriate diameters so as to provide maximum light transmission. The SMC doesn't suffer from vignette issues under even the most extreme conditions. The broad band multi-layer anti-reflection coating on all surfaces also greatly improves light transmission. OPTIMIZED FOR AUTOFOCUS By utilizing a specially developed algorithm in the optimization process, the SMC renders superior image quality over the full focusing range of the camera lens (which becomes ~50 to ~100 mm in front of the SMC). Also benefitting from the high brightness and contrast of the image, the autofocus system of the camera usually works acceptably well within this range. AMPLE WORKING DISTANCE Even at the maximum 2.3X magnification, there is still more than 50mm of working distance between the front element and the subject with 100/105mm macro lenses. This working distance is crucial when capturing behavior with skittish subjects. RESOLUTION High resolution was a primary design goal of the SMC project. This has been achieved using computer aided optimization and high grade optical glasses with unique refractive and dispersion properties. Images taken with this new system exhibit very high resolution and quality. Results have exceeded expectations, and these images rival the quality of the macro lens in air. SMOOTH BOKEH The Converter retains the optical properties of the macro lens for the whole system underwater, resulting in a blurred (out of focus) background that has a pleasing smoothness and creamy look, without the normal purple and green fringing. AVOIDING DIFFRACTION Due to the overall superior optical performance of the SMC it is possible to shoot larger apertures with excellent image quality. This avoids reaching the diffraction limit of high resolution sensors, and allows selective focus effects with narrow depth of field in super macro images.
